The other day my wife and I visited the Cheesecake Factory for lunch, and after we waited for a short period of time we were ushered to our table and presented with our books. Yes, I said books, not menus. If you have ever been to this restaurant chain you know that the menu is actually a spiral bound book the size of a hefty technical manual with more than 200 culinary creations. It’s overwhelming, although I managed to try several items to the dismay of wife and probably my physician if he knew. Shhhh….
As I began to write this blog about member benefits at InfoComm, it struck me that trying to do that, or, for that matter, list them, is not unlike the overwhelming experience of reading a spiral bound menu with 200 items. How do find what you really want, remember what there is to offer, or choose what will satisfy your need/craving?
So rather than provide you with your spiral bound list I’ll group them into four member value categories.
Networking - Professional Development - Business Support - Industry Advancement
Some recent research by the association industry revealed that personal networking is the number one benefit most members desire, and many of you are familiar with our biggest networking event the InfoComm show held each June. But did you also know that we host over 50 roundtable events worldwide, bringing regional members together to discuss the issues of the industry? How about the InfoComm Community, our virtual space where more than 200 individuals are discussing green initiatives or our groups on Facebook or LinkedIn?
Professional development is probably what InfoComm is known best for, whether it be our many course offerings, the opportunity to expand your product knowledge at one of our trade shows worldwide, or advancing your career and business with the CTS certification. But, if you haven’t looked lately you should check out some of the new education offerings, and in particular the new ways we deliver them. It’s not just about the classroom anymore.
Mentioning certification above leads me into Business Benefits. Di d you know that you may be eligible for a discount on some of your business insurance if you have InfoComm certified folks on your staff? That’s a tangible dollar value and there are other benefits that can help your business bottom line. We also offer Market Research that can help you make the right business decisions.
You are going to see the tagline “advancing audiovisual communications globally’ in many of our materials and certainly as a trade association that is our job and we take it seriously. Through the development and publication of ANSI standards we are extending the reach of the AV industry. Though outreach programs to architects and the building industry and activities you participate in like AV Week we are promoting both the need and professionalism of our members.
Want to know the spiral bound details of what’s available and how it can work for you? Drop us a line at membership@infocomm.org. We can help you get through the menu to find what you need. By the way if you get to the Cheesecake Factory and you are overwhelmed, try the Sweet Corn Tamale Cakes to get you started.
