The 2002 Winter Olympics/Paralympic Games

Case Study: The 2002 Winter Olympics/Paralympic GamesWhen Utah welcomed the world to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Listen Technologies was there.

“We were excited to be part of the Games,” said Russell Gentner, president of Listen Technologies Corp. “There were over 400 people utilizing Listen receivers and headsets at the ten venues across the state.”

To meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC) rented equipment from Poll Sound, a Utah Listen Dealer. SLOC broadcast the audio feed from each venue through Listen LT-800 Stationary Transmitters. Visitors to each venue were able to check out a Listen LR-300 Digital Receiver. "These units are ideal for outdoor venues,” said Gentner. “Users can adjust volume to comfortable levels,
and they are free to wander around the site while still hearing the action and commentary."

Listen, a Utah company, was proud of the opportunity to help represent the state to the world. "The State of Utah did a tremendous job with both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games,” said Gentner. “We were pleased that we could help make the experience more enjoyable for so many people visiting our state. So often, we take for granted something as simple as being able to hear an announcer, but many people don’t have that ability. Thanks to Listen products, these people were able to maximize their Olympic experience."

Studies suggest that ten percent of all Americans suffer from some form of hearing loss or impairment. Hearing assistance equipment, such as that made by Listen, can help these people hear better while helping facilities fulfill ADA requirements.
