Overview

The Wireless Conference Access Point is the heart of the Wireless Digital Conferencing® system. It is the central control unit and wireless transceiver that links all the Wireless Digital Conferencing chairman/delegate units together, and can operate on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency ranges. The access point provides three (3) antennas, two (2) transceiver antennas for diversity connection to the control surfaces and a single antenna to scan the band and identify potential interference sources. The access point automatically selects and adjusts the operational frequency for the least interference of competing RF signals. The effective range of use for wireless conference units with a single WCAP+ is 100 ft. (30 m). Additional WCAP+ units can be added through the use of a Central Control Unit to increase the wireless coverage area.

The WCAP+ can manage up to 1024 chairman/delegate units with a total of 8 open microphones. Data exchanged between the conference units and the WCAP+ is digitally encrypted providing a secure communication system.  A Confidea CU must be linked to the WC-WCAP+ in order to support up to 16 channels of simultaneous interpretation and language channels in the system. Using a built in browser, set up application settings such as operating modes (push to talk, with request, FIFO, etc.), microphone level, battery status, and operational frequency are accessible for viewing and modification. Connection for this set up function is made via a standard Ethernet port. For connection to external audio equipment such as a video conference or room PA systems, the WC-WCAP+ has balanced audio connections for both an input and output.

Basic discussion and voting applications are supported by the WCAP+; however expanded capabilities are provided through the use of the optional stand alone software. This software is a Windows based application that provides additional control of the Delegates, Microphones, and Voting functionality.

The Wireless Digital Conferencing WC-APPS is an external power adaptor that is used to provide the necessary power to a Wireless Digital Conferencing Access Point (WC-WCAP).

The power supply can be plugged into any standard outlet.

FAQ

What are the frequencies used by the system?
The Wireless Conferencing system operates in the 2.4GHz & 5GHz frequency bands.

Can I manually set the operational frequency on the WCAP+?
Yes, you can manually set the operational frequency you want the WCAP to operate on; however the automatic frequency hopping function will be disabled. You will need to manually change the operational frequency if any interference is noticed on the system.

Does the system use encryption?
Yes. It uses a proprietary data structure for the transmission of the digital audio and control. Additionally, a 128 bit encryption key can be generated by the WCAP and loaded into selected microphone units desired for use in the meeting. All other units will be locked out.

Will this system interfere with existing wireless LANs?
This system operates in a public domain frequency space. Yes, if other systems, including standard wireless network adaptors are in use on the same channel, there can be interference. The Wireless Conferencing system has an automatic scanning function that is constantly sweeping the frequency spectrum and looking for and moving to channels with little or no traffic. So, even if you start a conference on a clear channel and later that channel becomes occupied, the WCAP will move to a new frequency with less interference.

Do I need a separate Central Control Unit to run a conference?
No, the WCAP+ will operate as both the wireless access point and the standalone control unit. A wired control unit is only required when language interpretations is needed, and/or expansion of the system by linking additional WCAP+ together to extend the wireless coverage area.

Is it possible to interface this system with a telephone system for audio/video conferencing?
Yes, The WCAP has a balanced audio AUX input/output that can be connected to an external codec, teleconference or video conference system. A true mix-minus signal can be provided to the external system.

Do I need software to use the voting feature?
No, the Wireless Conferencing WC-CIV, WC-CV, WC-DIV and WC-DV provide for voting functions. The chairman units have the ability to start/stop voting, and cast a vote while the delegate units can only cast a vote once a vote is started by a chairman unit. The results will then be automatically displayed on the on each of the conference units as the vote is in progress and after it has been stopped.

How many wireless units can be connected to the WCAP+?
The total number of units that can be connected is 1024; however the distance from the WACP+ for connectivity is limited to 98.4 ft. (30 m). Contact Listen Technical Support for more information.

If I use software with the system, will I have the ability to record vote results, who spoke, for how long, etc?
Yes. Software modules are required to capture the meeting data.

Can the Wireless system be connected to a wired system?
Yes, the Wireless Digital Conferencing system can be directly linked to a Digital Conferencing system via a RJ45 connection from the WCAP+ to the Confidea CU.

Does the system have a wireless interpretation unit?
No. To provide interpretation services the system must connect to a Confidea CU and have a wired ID2500 interpreter’s control unit attached to the Central Unit.
