LR-100

My receiver won't turn on.

  • Make sure that the power supply is plugged in.
  • Make sure you are using the correct power supply (LA-201) for this receiver.

I can hear some static in the audio. There is only static present.

  • The receiver is not on the correct channel. Press seek until you find a clean channel or manually scroll until you find your desired channel.
  • Make sure that an antenna is connected to the LR-100 and is the correct antenna for that frequency. If using a remote antenna, make sure that the antenna is properly mounted/installed.
  • There are no transmissions in the area.
  • Make sure that the transmitter is transmitting properly.
  • The receiver is out of reception range.

The audio is intermittent.

  • The receiver is out of reception range.
  • The receiver is not on the correct channel. Press seek until you find a clean channel or manually scroll until you find your desired channel.
  • The squelch setting of the receiver needs to be set to a lower setting (Default 3). This will allow weaker signals to be heard. The receiver may be noisier when signals are weak.
  • The transmitter's RF Power setting needs to be increased to Full.
  • Make sure that an antenna is connected to the LR-100 and is the correct antenna for that frequency. If using a remote antenna, make sure that the antenna is properly mounted/installed.
The audio sounds distorted.
  • The transmitter is being over driven. Adjust the input and mix level VU meters (front panel LED level lights) so that they are not in the red or adjust so they are barely peaking into the red. Make sure that the rear panel Input 1 and Input 2 level select switches are in the correct position.
  • The receiver is turned up all the way. Turn down the input level slightly on the receiver to avoid distortion.
  • The receiver is not on the correct channel. Press seek until you find a clean channel or manually scroll until you find your desired channel.

The audio level is very low.

  • Turn up the input level on the front panel.
  • The transmitter's rear panel Input 1 and Input 2 level select switches need to be placed in the correct position.
  • Adjust the input and mix level VU meters (front panel LED level lights) so that they are not in the red or adjust so they are barely peaking into the red. Make sure that the rear panel Input 1 and Input 2 level select switches are in the correct position.

My LR-100 will not seek or change channels.

  • The unit is locked. Press and hold the SEEK button for 5 seconds to unlock. The padlock icon will extinguish on the LCD display.
The range of my LR-100 is very short.
  • The squelch setting of the receiver needs to be set to a lower setting (Default 3). This will allow weaker signals to be heard. The receiver may be noisier when signals are weak.
  • Make sure that the LR-100 has an antenna and it is properly connected.
  • If using a remote antenna with your LR-100, the antenna may need to be better positioned. In general, the higher the antenna the more range. Refer to the antenna's user manual for proper mounting and installation strategies for the antenna being used.
  • The transmitter's RF Power setting needs to be increased to Full.
  • A more efficient transmitting or receiving antenna may be needed.
What is the output power of the LR-100?
  • 10 Watts @ 4 ohm. (peak value)
How many speakers can I connect to the LR-100?
  • As many as you want. Try to keep the overall load to 4 ohms for maximum performance. A series-parallel combination of (4) LA-316 will deliver 2.5 watts to each speaker, which should provide ample volume for a soundfield environment.

Can I power the LR-100 with a DC voltage?

  • YES. The LR-100 can be powered by a 12VDC source for remote locations. When it is done this way, the LR-100 is always ON.
Can I change the channel and mute remotely?
  • YES. The Phoenix connector on the rear of the unit allows the connection of switches to remote the channel and mute controls.

LR-300

My receiver won't turn ON.
  • Make sure that your batteries are installed with the correct polarity.
  • Your batteries may need to be replaced.

  • The red LED on top of the unit will begin flashing.
  • The receiver keeps turning off.
My receiver won't charge.
  • Make sure you are using NiMH batteries.
  • Make sure the battery select switch, located in the battery compartment, is in the NiMH position.
  • Make sure that the power cord is plugged in properly.
  • If using a charging case, make sure that the receiver is properly placed in the charging pocket.
The batteries in my receiver won't hold a charge.
  • It is time to replace the batteries. Listen recommends that the batteries be replaced every 3 years or after 500 charges.
  • Make sure that the receiver is actually receiving the charge. The red LED on top of the receiver will flash when charging. Since this is the same indication of low batteries, make sure to turn the unit off while charging to ensure that the receiver's batteries are being charged.
  • Make sure that the unit is being turned off when not in use.

What is the range of this transmitter?
  • A range of up to 150 feet is achievable depending upon the following:
  • The orientation of the Microphone cord, which is the transmitting antenna.
  • The objects between the transmitter and receiver. All material, especially metal, will weaken the signal strength.
  • The type of receiver and its receiving antenna.
What channels should I be transmitting on?
  • It is recommended that wideband channels are used for best audio quality. If transmitting multiple simultaneous channels, narrowband frequencies may be required.
The signal being transmitted is inconsistent, my receivers cut in and out.
  • The receivers may be out of range of the transmitter.
How do I connect my TV, VCR, CD player, etc. to this transmitter?
  • Listen provides a Line Input Cable (LA-263) that will allow you to connect an RCA connection to the transmitter.
My microphone sounds very low in audio level.
  • Make sure that the microphone sensitivity switch, located in the battery compartment, is in the correct position. Consult the microphone users manual for the correct setting.
What type of microphones can I use with this transmitter?
  • Any Listen condenser microphone may be used with this transmitter.
My batteries will not charge.
  • Make sure you are using NiMH batteries.
  • Make sure the battery select switch, located in the battery compartment, is in the NiMH position.
  • Make sure that the power cord is plugged in properly.

How do I lock out channels?

What is the range of this transmitter?
  • Depends on the following:
    • The frequency of the transmitter.
    • The transmitter's location.
    • The antenna being used on the transmitter and receiver.
    • The location of the remote antenna (if applicable). In general, the higher the antenna the more range.
    • The length of coaxial cable ran to the antenna from the transmitter (if applicable). Every foot of cable creates a power loss.
    • The RF power setting on the transmitter.
    • The objects between the transmitter and receiver. All material, especially metal, will weaken the signal strength.
  • When using 72 MHz, a direct line of sight distance of 1500 feet from the transmitter can be achieved.
  • When using 216 MHz, a direct line of sight distance of 3000 feet from the transmitter can be achieved.
What channels should I be transmitting on?
  • It is recommended that wideband channels are used for best audio quality. If transmitting multiple simultaneous channels, narrowband frequencies may be required.
How many transmitters can I have operating simultaneously?
  • 72 MHz: 6 simultaneous transmissions
  • 216 MHz: 3 simultaneous transmissions
The signal being transmitted is inconsistent, my receiver cuts in and out.
  • The receiver may be out of range of the transmitter.
What type of microphones can I use with this transmitter?
  • Dynamic microphones can be used when the Input 1 level select switch is in the "MIC" position.
  • Condenser microphones can be used when the Input 1 level select switch is in the "MIC + Phantom Power" position.
I can't change the channel on my transmitter.
  • The unit is locked on a channel. To unlock, hold the channel select "Up" for 3 seconds. The padlock icon will extinguish from the LCD display.
I can't access the narrowband channels on my transmitter.
  • The transmitter is in "Basic mode" and all narrowband channels are locked out. To enter "Expanded mode" and transmit on a narrowband channel, hold the channel select "Down" button while turning on the unit.
What does the "contour" knob do?
  • The contour knob boosts or cuts frequencies above 5kHz. It is recommended that this knob be turned counterclockwise for voice and clockwise for music.
What does the "process" feature do? When should I use it?
  • The process feature is a type of Automatic Gain Control. If your input signals to the transmitter are inconsistent in level and you wish to have gain control, then this should be turned on.
Where should I have the input level switches positioned on the back of my transmitter?
  • Depends on the level of audio being input.
  • When using Input 1:
    • MIC position: For a microphone or MIC level input of -55dbu.
    • MIC Phantom Power: For a condenser microphone that needs a 12VDC phantom power supply supply at a -55dbu level input.
  • When using Input 2:
    • +10dbu/SPKR position: When connecting a speaker or any other higher line level audio input.
    • -10dbu/Line position: When connecting a regular line level input of -10dbu.
My transmitter seems to have lost power/range.
  • Make sure that the antenna is connected properly.
  • Make sure that the RF power switch is in the correct position.
  • A more efficient transmit antenna may be needed.
Can this transmitter be powered with a DC voltage?
  • NO. The transmitter must use the supplied 15VAC power supply.
Can I use this transmitter with other manufacturer's receivers?
  • YES. Please refer to the frequency compatibility charts in the manual or on the website for channel conversions. When using other manufacturers products, SQ (Super Quiet) must be turned OFF.
