About
A synagogue serving a congregation across its sanctuary, social hall, and
religious school wanted to improve accessibility and audio delivery
throughout the building with an assistive listening system. The congregation
supports many types of listeners, including members who are hard of
hearing and older congregants.
Challenge
The synagogue struggled to deliver clear, accessible audio throughout the
sanctuary and adjoining spaces, especially during the High Holidays when
the sanctuary reached capacity, and background noise increased. The Ritual
and Facilities Committees needed something scalable and simple enough for
volunteer lay leaders to manage. Clergy wanted a way to support overflow
seating during high-attendance services. All this while making it easy for
members to connect with their smartphones, earbuds, or hearing aids.
Solution
The synagogue installed Auri™ in the sanctuary and social hall because of its
ability to broadcast live audio directly from the existing sound system using
Auracast™ technology. Audio from the bimah and sanctuary microphones was
routed to Auri™ transmitters, letting congregants listen in real time using their
own Auracast-enabled devices or synagogue-provided receivers. A second
broadcast channel was used to stream the sanctuary service to the social hall
for overflow seating during the High Holidays. Receivers kept at the entrance
let any member listen in without needing a compatible device of their own.
Result
After implementation, the synagogue significantly improved accessibility and
audio clarity throughout the sanctuary and adjoining spaces. Congregants said
they could understand services better, especially those who previously needed
to sit close to the bimah to follow along. The scalable design let the Ritual
and Facilities Committees expand coverage to other rooms without major
infrastructure changes or outside AV support. Clergy was able to support
overflow seating during the High Holidays, while lay leadership benefited from
a modern system that volunteers could manage on their own.
Overall, the synagogue improved the worship experience, supported inclusive
participation for members with hearing loss, and refined operational efficiency
across its AV systems.
