How-To's

FAQs

+I am on the Wi-Fi, but cannot see the channels/TVs/audio sources

  • First, check that you are on the correct Wi-Fi.
  • Touch refresh on the App.
  • The system may be off for some reason.  Please ask the venue operator to turn on the Server or perhaps reboot it.

+I cannot log on to the venue’s Wi-Fi, what do I do?

  • The Wi-Fi may have a password which you need to get from the venue.
  • Or the venue’s connection to the Internet may be broken.  Please ask them to check or reboot their system. (For you techies, if your iPhone cannot get an IP address from a DHCP server, it won’t let you on the Wi-Fi.)

+Are there any special considerations when distributing video through modulators or using a matrix switch?

Video modulators and matrix switches add a fixed delay to the video. Because of this, the audio can come out before the video, resulting in poor lip sync. The solution is to adjust the delay using our Cloud Server as discussed here.

+What do I do if the receivers are located far from the Server?

There are several solutions possible. One is to use multiple Servers. Then instead of running long audio wires, you would run on Ethernet wire. The Servers would be combined in an Ethernet switch. This may be easier. Another option is to use RF modulators to send the signal from one end of the establishment to the other. Finally, the easiest solution may just be to run long audio wire. The audio signals are relatively low frequency and line level. If the runs are over about 8 meters then you might use baluns on one end or two to switch from single-ended to differential signals. The use of baluns with our differential input devices is discussed here.

+The audio feed I want doesn’t seem to have a corresponding channel

Channel availability depends on the venue’s configuration.  Try scanning through all the sources or consult the venue-specific channel listings to see if the audio feed you want is available.

+Does the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App interfere with my hot-spot bandwidth?

No, it only uses a tiny percentage of the Internet bandwidth and a modest percentage of the local bandwidth.  A rule of thumb would be that each active user uses 0.2% of the local bandwidth. To learn more about how Audio Everywhere handles bandwidth issues - click here.

+Does using the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App burden my data plan?

No, the system works over Wi-Fi.

+Given a choice, should I use the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi band with the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App?

Use the 5 GHz band whenever possible. The 2.4 GHz band is very crowded with only three non-overlapping bands. Worse than that, there are many other non-Wi-Fi devices that use the 2.4 GHz band, including microwave ovens, cordless phones, and garage-door openers. That band is no longer really suitable for streaming and should only be used as a last resort. That said, there are some smart phones that do not have a 5 GHz radio.

+How do I close the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App on iOS so that it stops running?

  • On iOS 7, double tap the Home button/Touch ID sensor. You will see the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App.  Drag it off the top of the screen; then you can re-launch it.

+How do I use the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies app?

  • Download the app.
  • Make sure your Wi-Fi is on and that you’re connected to an Audio Everywhere enabled network. It may take up to 90 seconds for channels to display in the App.
  • If you cannot see any channels, tap the refresh button.
  • Select the channel that you want to listen to.
  • Tap on any other channel with audio sources.
  • You can also listen to the audio while running the App in background mode.
  • You can stop playback at any time by returning to the app and tapping the “stop” button.

+If many people are complaining that they cannot see the channels on the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies app, what should I do?

Reboot the Server by turning its power off and then on.  Everything should be back running in fewer than 10 minutes.

+What are the most inexpensive user devices compatible with the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies system?

This changes all the time, but best in terms of quality is the iPod Touch from Apple.

+What if the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies app is “playing” but I don't hear an sound?

Confirm the volume of your device is turned up. If you are still unable to hear, close the app and relaunch it.

+What is the best way to listen to the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App?

That depends on where and when, but our favorite way to listen is with one earbud so we can keep one ear on the program and one ear on the people around us.

+Why is the audio delayed from the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App?

Because of Wi-Fi and phone delays, sometimes the audio is delayed by a syllable or more.

+Will audio still play if I minimize the the Audio Everywhere from Listen Technologies App?

Yes! If the venue’s Wi-Fi is connected to the Internet you can do things like check Facebook, look up the stats of your fantasy team or use other apps.
