Overview

The ADA Standard Stationary IR System is designed for applications that are looking for an IR solution to meet the needs of the new 2012 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. Ideal for applications where security or number of transmissions are of great priority. This system includes both types of receiver, neckloop, earphone, transmitter, rack mount kit, and Assistive Listening Notification Signage Kit, and can be customized, if necessary. The system contains all of the items to be fully integrated with your existing sound system. Great for audio assistance and security in courtrooms and classrooms.

Architectural Specs

Furnish and install an IR wireless assistive listening system for use by the hearing-impaired. The assistive listening system (ALS) shall be capable of broadcasting on 4 separate channels and be frequency agile. The ALS system shall have 60 dB SNR (mono) or greater, end-to-end. Receivers shall be frequency agile to 4 channels  set with a “SEL” switch.  The LR-44 receivers will incorporate a stereo headset jack that allows the user to plug in either a mono or stereo headset and listen to audio normally. The receivers shall incorporate automatic battery charging circuitry for recharging of Ni-MH batteries.  The receivers and transmitters shall offer a limited lifetime warranty.  Listen Technologies Corporation LS-86 products are specified.

What are the ADA changes related to assistive listening systems?
Simply put, any public assembly area where audible communication is integral to the use of the space, an assistive listening system shall be provided. How many carriers does the LT-82 Stationary IR Transmitter produce?
One.

How many carriers can be produced simultaneously in a room?
Four. You will need one LT-82 Stationary IR Transmitter per carrier.
 
Is there any performance degradation in stereo mode?
Yes, stereo operation raises the noise floor slightly.
 
Can I operate some channels in mono and others in stereo?
Yes.
 
How do you replace the batteries in the receiver?
For non-rechargeable batteries (AAA alkaline), remove the battery compartment and replace the batteries with fresh AAA alkaline batteries. For rechargeable NiMH batteries, simply replace the sealed battery pack with a freshly charged pack.
 
How do I recharge the NiMH batteries?
Use the Listen LA-350 8-Unit Charging/Storage unit. This unit will charge batteries that are in receivers or out of receivers.
 
How long will the NiMH batteries last until they need to be recharged?
You should receive 15 hours of use from each charge of the batteries.
 
How are radiators connected to the LT-82?
The carrier (signal) is connected using coax cable; power is connected using standard CAT-5 cabling.
 
Can the LT-82 be operated on 230 VAC?
Yes, the LT-82 has a universal power supply that can be used anywhere in the world.
 
How much coverage is provided with the LA-140 radiator?
Approximately 10,000 ft² (929 m²).
 
Does the number of carriers affect the coverage?
Yes, for two sources (carriers), the total coverage is half of 10,000 ft² (929 m²). For four carriers, the coverage per carrier is one-fourth.
 
How is power delivered to the radiator?
Power is delivered with CAT-5 cables (connected between the radiator and either the LT-82 transmitter or the LA-205 power supply).
 
How many radiators can be powered from the LT-82 or LA-205 power supply?
Two.
 
What is the purpose of the delay compensation switch?
This switch allows you to set up delay timing in a multi-radiator system so that each radiator receives the carrier at exactly the same time. This prevents signal dropouts that can be caused by out-of-phase signals (multi-path). With Listen’s delay compensation switch, it is not necessary to cut all of your coaxial cables to the same length - your shorter runs can use shorter cables, keeping your installation clean (and cost-effective).
