Swiss audio testing firm Pro Audito recently evaluated a range of induction neckloops for compatibility with Auracast™, FM, and IR receivers. The Listen Technologies LA-438 came out as the highest-performing passive model in the group.
For hearing aid and cochlear implant users with a telecoil, an induction neckloop is usually the link between an assistive listening system and their hearing device. But not all neckloops are created equal. Many available models suffer from a drop-off in the high-frequency range, which is exactly the frequency band most important for speech intelligibility. A neckloop with a weak high-frequency response can leave speech sounding muffled or unclear, even when the source audio is good.
Pro Audito measured each neckloop’s frequency response using an artificial head, following the IEC-62489-I standard. The testing focused especially on the 2,000 to 4,000 Hz range because it’s the frequency band that’s most important for speech intelligibility.
Among passive neckloops tested (models without their own amplifier or battery), the LA-438 ranked highest. Pro Audito found it delivered strong high-frequency performance, which translates to better speech clarity for telecoil users. The LA-438 also reaches a standards-compliant magnetic field output from a comparatively low input signal. This makes it an efficient, high-output performer that’s great for professional-grade Auracast, FM, and IR receiver systems.
