On August 25, 2025, Google will officially discontinue support for Firebase Dynamic Links, a platform that ListenWIFI and Listen Everywhere have relied on since 2019. This technology has powered critical features such as Channel QR codes and deep linking, enabling users to connect quickly and seamlessly to venue audio content.
We’re transitioning to AppsFlyer’s OneLink platform to ensure uninterrupted performance and improve overall functionality. This change introduces a more flexible and resilient linking system, aligning with our long-term product strategy and enhancing the user experience.
The primary reason for this transition is Google’s deprecation of Firebase Dynamic Links. Once the service is discontinued on August 25, 2025, scans of legacy ListenWIFI QR codes will no longer redirect users to the App Store or Google Play. Instead, they will lead to an inactive destination, disrupting the onboarding process for new users attempting to download the app.
After evaluating alternatives, we selected AppsFlyer’s OneLink platform due to its comprehensive support for all deep-linking use cases and enhanced reliability. Key benefits of OneLink include:
This shift is more than a maintenance update, it’s a strategic upgrade to how ListenWIFI handles access links, QR codes, and mobile app connection flow to our customers.
The OneLinks release redefines how ListenWIFI QR codes function, introducing improvements to URL structure, link flexibility, and QR code performance.
New Link Domain & Structure
All new QR codes and links will now use our branded domain: link.listenwifi.com/{unique_parameters]. Each link includes a compact Template ID and supports optional parameters like:
Improved QR Code Scanning
Shorter URLs mean reduced QR code density, making them easier to scan in dim lighting or from a distance. OneLinks also eliminate unnecessary parameters and redirects, further streamlining the experience.
Offline-Capable Deep Linking
If a user already has the app installed, OneLinks can connect without needing an active internet connection. (Note: App store redirects for users without ListenWIFI installed still require internet access.)
We recommend taking action as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition. We will share additional resources and instructions to guide you through the update process.
After August 25, 2025, all QR codes generated using Firebase Dynamic Links will stop working reliably.
Ensure all components are updated to support the OneLinks rollout:
We appreciate your attention to this important update. By acting now, you’ll ensure a seamless user experience and continue to offer the high-quality connectivity your venue depends on. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@listentech.com.
