Promoting Accessibility and Inclusion

Silver plaque that reads, "Assistive Listening Available"

Why add text to your website for assistive listening devices? Inclusion isn’t just a buzzword. Today, more than ever, consumers want to do business with inclusive businesses that mirror their values. Add the availability of assistive listening and other accommodations you provide to your website to promote your accessibility and inclusion. Use the sample website text below to add information to your website about your assistive listening system and available devices.

Challenges associated with hearing clearly should not impede someone from living a full life. They should still be able to pursue their education and advance their career. In addition, they should be able to attend religious services, participate in local government, or enjoy the arts or sporting events. Providing assistive listening helps ensure equal access.

Communicate to your customers that everyone who enters your facility has the right to feel included and hear every word clearly and concisely by promoting your accessibility to ensure your patrons/guests know what accommodations are available and who to contact if they have questions or need to request a specific accommodation like an interpreter.

Use the sample website text to customize text specific to your application and location.

Choose from three options:

  1. Listen EVERYWHERE (Audio Over Wi-Fi)
  2. Listen EVERYWHERE (Audio Over Wi-Fi with no receivers to borrow*)
  3. ListenRF or ListenIR (Radio Frequency and Infrared Systems – not Wi-Fi)

Add this text to your website under menu options or pages like “Plan your Visit,” “Hearing or Visual Services,” “FAQs,” or “Accommodations.”

[Brackets] contain text to be customized specifically to your assistive listening system and venue.

The [insert venue name] is accessible to people with disabilities and offers wheelchair seating, curbside assistance, and assistive listening devices, including neck loops for those with cochlear implants or hearing aids. If you have any questions or concerns regarding accommodations, please contact [insert name or department with a phone number or email address].

Assistive Listening Devices

We provide free assistive listening to accommodate and include those with hearing loss. Assistive listening systems amplify the sound directly from the audio source without amplifying background noise for better speech intelligibility. Neck loops are also available and work with t-coil-enabled hearing aids and cochlear implants.

OPTION 1:  Listen EVERYWHERE (Audio Over Wi-Fi)

Sample Website Text for Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive listening is available through an audio over Wi-Fi system called Listen EVERYWHERE. You can access this assistive listening system in two ways:

  1. Check out a receiver from [guest services]
  2. Use your smartphone

Checking out an Assistive Listening Device/Receiver

If you would like to borrow an assistive listening device/receiver free of charge, please visit [guest services/box office/front counter] and ask for an assistive listening device.

You can bring your wired earbuds or headphones or borrow [an ear speaker] when requesting an assistive listening device. If you have t-coil-enabled hearing aids or a cochlear implant, we have neck loops for use with the receiver instead of [an ear speaker].

Please let us know if you need an ear speaker or neck loop when you request a receiver. [Be prepared to provide collateral (keys or ID) that will be returned when you return your assistive listening device and neck loop.]

We thoroughly disinfect all equipment after each use for health and safety purposes.

You can use your smartphone to access the audio by downloading the Listen EVERYWHERE app and listening to the audio using earbuds or headphones. The free app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and works with iOS and Android devices. Here are some tips for enjoying the sound through the app:

  1. Bring your wired earbuds or headphones. Bluetooth wireless earbuds and headphones can add delay to the audio.
  2. Download the Listen EVERYWHERE app from the Google Play or Apple App store.
  3. Fully charge your smartphone. There is some battery draw to access the audio via the Listen EVERYWHERE app.
  4. Once you arrive, you can scan the QR code from signs [posted in the lobby] to connect to the network to access the channel for the audio.
  5. You can put your phone in “do not disturb” mode so that the audio is not interrupted by incoming calls or other notifications on your smartphone.
